Cortlandt is one of those towns made up of several smaller villages and hamlets. The Village of Croton-on-Hudson though is within the  Town of Cortlandt , has its own government.

Because Cortlandt cover a large area, it is actually served by four school districts, depending upon the geographic where you reside.  Those District include:

Where is Cortlandt?

The Town of Cortlandt is in the northwest part of the county. The town includes the villages of Buchanan and Croton-on-Hudson and the hamlets of Montrose and Crugers. The east town line is the Hudson River and the City of Peekskill The north town line is the border of Putnam County, the west is bordered by the Town of Yorktown and the south by the Town of Ossining.

Commuter service to New York City is available via the Cortlandt train station and the Croton-Harmon train station, served by Metro-North Railroad.

US Route 9 passes through the town along the Hudson River side.
