The economic news wasn't a bright spot in December 2008 but with the drop in interest rates and realistic pricing and negotiability by some sellers motivated to sell their homes quickly, many buyers are finding that they are able to purchase their dream home at this time. Mortgages can still be obtained by qualified buyers and as you can see the number of homes sold in December 2008 is higher than the number sold in November.
