The Town of Mount Pleasant is comprised of the villages of Hawthorne , Pleasantville, Thornwood and Valhalla. The village of Valhalla is home to the town offices, the Kensico Dam Plaza, Westchester County Medical Center, Maria Ferrari Childrens Hospital, Blythdale Childrens Hospital, Westchester County Community College, the Westchester County Jail and Kensico Cemetery and the Gates of Heaven Cemetery where many notables of entertainment, sports and politics are buried. The Village of Pleasantville was the original home for the corporate headquarters of Readers Digest and is the location of the Westchester Campus of Pace University.
Government: The Supervisor is the chief elected official of the Town of Mt. Pleasant . The position of Supervisor is a two-year term, full-time position. The Supervisor is responsible for the administration of town government & the duties of the supervisor include the administration of the Town's daily functions. The Supervisor is the Chairman of the Town Board. The other Councilmen & Councilwomen are elected to four-year term, part-time position. The Town Board is the legislative and policy making board in the Town of Mt. Pleasant.
The Village of Pleasantville was incorporated in 1897 and is governed by a mayor & four trustees each elected to three year terms and make village policy. A village manager oversees the day to day operations.

Schools: Due to its size, residents of Mount Pleasant, though primarily attend the Mount Pleasant School District , due to geography, some residents attend the Byram Hills School District , Pleasantville School District , Pocantico Hills Schools District , and the Valhalla Union Free School District .
Transportation/Commuting: The town is accessible to the Taconic Parkway and the Saw Mill Parkway and has Metro North train stations at Mount Pleasant, Hawthorne, Pleasantville and Valhalla for an easy commute to New York City
