Westchester County covers an area just over 457 square miles and is the southern most county of the Lower Hudson Valley. Its geographical setting is a favorable one, with Long Island Sound and Fairfield County Connecticut on the east , the Hudson River on the west and it is located just north of New York City. The terrain is largely rolling hills, intersected by three main streams--the Croton, Bronx, and Saw Mill rivers. The county is one of the most heavily forested in New York State. Northern Westchester County has retained much of its rural character while adopting the urban and suburban lifestyles. With major highways and parkways and three Metro North train lines, the county is easily accessible and with a rich history, major corporate headquarters, many cultural sites, extensive system of state, county & town parks, and award winning schools, Westchester County has become the ultimate in suburban lifestyle yet with all the amenities of New York City.
