Welcome to Pleasantville
Pleasantville is a Village located in the Town of Mount Pleasant in Westchester County NY. Located just 31 miles north from Grand Central Terminal in NYC, the Village of Pleasantville is "home, sweet home" for over 7172 residents as of the 2000 census. Pleasantville is home to the Westchester County campus of Pace University, the Jacob Burns Film Center and the former location of the Reader's Digest Association, Inc. world headquarters.
History: Settled in 1695 and formerly known as "Clark's Corners," the Village was once a stop along the Underground Railroad. Pleasantville became an autonomous local government in 1897 when it was incorporated.
Government : The municipality is governed by an elected Board of Trustees comprised of a Mayor and four Trustees, each elected to three year terms. They are responsible for the management of the Village. In order to fulfill this mandate, Village Law provides local elected officials broad statutory powers to appoint officials, establish Boards, adopt local legislation, develop budgets and acquire land and buildings.
Schools : The residents of the Village of Pleasantville are served by the Pleasantville School District, the Byram Hills School District and the Town of Mount Pleasant Central School District.
Business: Pleasantville has a vibrant business community with shops and fine dining served by the Pleasantville Chamber of Commerce.
Transportation: The Pleasantville Train Station is on the Harlem Line of the Metro North Railroad and serves it many residents who commute about 45 minutes to to New York City. Pleasantville is also accessible to the Saw Mill Parkway for any easy commute by car.
