BRRRRR Welcome to Winter In Northern Westchester
Yes winter has officially arrived... though 4 weeks after the calendar said so. In case you hadn't noticed even the daylight is beginning to stay a little longer and since we have been extremely lucky in the northeast with record breaking warm days so far, we had begun to forget that it is still winter. UNTIL TODAY.
Hopefully everyone this morning was able to locate those new gloves, hats & scarves you received as gifts over the holidays. Now time to get out those extra blankets tonight. We also must be mindfull of the many who must seek the warmth of shelters from this bitter cold.
Many people have discussed the savings on being able to keep their thermostats down to save on home heating oil and gas but tonight the furnaces are turned on and everyone's heat is working full steam.
In the spirit of saving eneregy and expenses on home heating, here is a link to EnergyStar which has a cool house and as you click on items in the rooms, it suggests energy saving tips. http://www.energystar.gov/index.cfm?c=products.es_at_home Also, the US Dept. of Energy has more energy saving ideas at http://www.energy.gov/yourhome.htm.
So when you finish reading this blog, go to those sites and see what ideas you get for saving energy in your home. Remember, the ground hog in about 3 weeks could see his shadow ... and there could be 6 more weeks of a very cold winter.
